When the herp species are far and few, it's hard to be surprised by what you find. I'm finding it's the non-herp species that are really adding to the trips now, even though I still go for the frogs. This vole was about the size of a larger gerbil and was completely oblivious to me or my vehicle. I jumped out for a quick pic hoping to get it before it ran into the ditch. Funny enough, it kept foraging for flowers, and even walked around right underneath me as I was on hands and knees trying to photo the busy critter. Just wouldn't sit still, so all you get is a fuzzy pic. Of course a saw a few of these and about a zillion tadpoles. A few of these too. That night, the deet on my skin really had an off switch. I was really swarmed near the end, but grabbed this on the way out. Ian
