I am fairly new to the herp thing...but I have an aprox 6 mos old female beardie that is starting to eat crickets and worms but she is getting really agressive with me when I'm trying to pick her up. I am wanting to hand tame her and wondering if I am doing it right ...how long should she be held for and what should I be doing with her when I do have her. What is the best way to calm them down when they are biting and hissing? I am currently picking her up in the morning and evening just holding her and trying to feed her a cricket or worm while I do, and before I put her down {maybe 5 min} Is there a special way they should be petted or should you just hold them and not pet them at all?? Kinda clueless as to why she is getting more aggressive and not less as time goes on. Attachments:

I'm no expert at all but what I did with my black throat is just held him every day don't get discouraged and we moved him into a common area to be more exposed to us

Ah, adolescence. This is common at this age. There are a few things you can do to try and win her over. First, make sure you wash your hands so they don't have a smell she might be theatened by (i.e. a cat). Grab some veggies she likes and offer them to her while she is in the cage. Bribe her and make her associate you with food. When you pick her up don't give in and put her back unless she is calm. They love having their heads rubbed and will even close their eyes! Make sure you support her well, including her legs. If you want to woo her with bugs go for wax worms.. they love them! The biggest thing is patience and repitition. Once she gets past this stage she could be the best beardie ever! Oh, and holding her in the morning and at night when she is groggy may make it a bit easier.

Well I have started to make sure I am supporting her better and also have changed their location and I think that has made the most difference as she was located in a very low traffic area and now I see her all the time so the exposure is more intense so to speak. I also made a note to handle her after the feed which I am not too sure if i was aware of or not lol...but I think moving her to the living area instead of the room has made a great difference and also me being stubborn might have something to do wit it as well...thanks for the tips...it has helped!
