Hey everyone, tommorrow I'm leaving for a trip to the Black Hills South Dakota. It's mainly just a vacation but I am going to try and find some herps anyway. I'll post all my pics back here when I get back. Wish me luck

Good luck! For areas I've never been before, I'll concentrate around water bodies. It'll be your best bet to find the common herps of the area. It's also been pretty hot down there lately so look very early in the morning before it gets hot. Also again in the evening. This usually works around people's vacation plans anyhow, which is a bonus. Road cruising after dark (the hotter the day was, the later you'll want to be out) should prove beneficial, but it may be quite regional. Again, focus around water bodies if you're not having any luck. For touristy things that the whole family will enjoy, you really must see www.reptilegardens.com/ It's right by Mount Rushmore and has probably the largest Australian elapid collection outside of Australia, and an all round dynomite herp collection. I've never been yet, but have talked with the curator on numerous occasions.

Never been there, but walk the water bodies. Paths are great for covering a lot of area, but look out for basking turtles and water snakes too. You should find a frog species or two just by walking the banks.
