We recently (as of this weekend) get to conclude the renovation that has been going on in my basement. We have been surviving with our collection pretty much stuffed into a 8'x12' bedroom, and now we are once again spilling out into the rest of the house. We tore a part our basement a couple months ago to upgrade it! I will post pictures of progress. I am just so excited to have 5 times the room we have now - I can`t wait to not bump into each other at feeding time!!! (I might be a little scared to see how fast I fill up the extra room though )

Look forward to seeing pics. Ther is a real risk with more space - always so easy to fill it up. Our collection was confined to a small basement room with a few large display tanks in some other rooms. One rack and a dozen tanks with a few large cages. Used to have 2 rooms full but have been gradually cutting down and will be keeping it confined to a single room once we move.

The real question is how big is the room you will be confining everything to - lol
Our new room will have mostly display tanks, and a couple racks for babies. I really hate the idea of racking systems, and have always steered away from them, but displays are not nearly as economical, or space saving. Its such a shame too, because i really like being able to see evyone doing there thing without having to disturb them.

So far the only rooms that dont have any critters is the bathroom and kitchen.....
Used to be that we had them all in the Dining room that was turned in to a reptile room. Then our daughter had hers in her room, well then we got more.... Some went in to our sons room, even more went in to our daughters room and this past weekend we moved some in to our bedroom.....

We used to like having everything all around the house, but we found it more time consuming trying to feed and mist everything. Not to mention, its easier to have everything on timers in one room. sounds like you have a full house, only na matter of time til they make their way to the bathroom lol

Most of my snakes are in what used to be the spare bedroom. We keep a display tank in the living room. And we just set up a new vivarium in our bedroom in anticipation of our first crested gecko. My younger snakes are in a rack system. I like it because of the space saved and the convenience but sometimes I feel like I'm just storing my babies. Can't wait to move and set it up the way I'd like

We keep our snakes split between our room and the living room. I find they see prompt attention for their feeding and cleaning needs this way.

I feel the same way about racking systems. I love the space saving, but I wish they were displayed more! I am sure that in a rack they are being handled more - just because it would be the best way to see them. We got our first rack ever in anticipation of knob tails, and I am sure they will be held more than they are in the rack. When we had snakes we also kept them between the living room and bedroom, for the same reasons I am sure. but as we`ve moved to geckos it just makes more sense keeping everything together for the misting, timers, and what not.

I built an insulated herp room in the basement. Our dining room has our two big south americans, the iguana and boa constrictor. Upstairs is my quarantine room and my bedroom sometimes sees some overflow to my wife's dismay!

Yay for basements! I can`t wait to get down there - got a subfloor in right now and thats about it. Once that basement is done I will have space to keep everything together. I hate it when everything starts spilling out all over the house. makes feeding and cleaning time twice the work

I started out with every part of the house calling home as do many obviously but that idea soon went out the window. As mentioned it's just plain easier with everything in one spot and I have far too many family members that are creeped out by the snakes.
Now being older I've owned my past couple places instead of renting so I have far more space, right now I have an empty basement and two empty bedrooms which could be rather dangerous for my bank account.

My house is not small by any means BUT it just seems that I do not have as much room as I would like to for my snakes. With the daycare having so much space being designated to it. The hubby having a den, each of my son's having their own bedroom(one has a snake in his room), the guest room often occupied by snake phobic people(although there is a snake in there), that leave my one son sharing his play room with the majority of the snakes, a snake in my bedroom, one in the basement family room and two more in the main living/sitting room on the main floor. In total I only have 9 of my own and 1 foster snake I am nursing back to health for a pet store in S'toon.
Once I have the proper shelving then they can all live in the snake/playroom(no need to worry the youngest is 11 and has had his own snake for 4 yrs now). I also need to get a hatchling ack built for next year.
