This is Bones. She is the biggest Daddys girl ever. She is extremly special needs. When we first got in to reptiles and beardies, we had no idea what a BSMT breeder/flipper was. With Bones we learned real fast. Found an ad for baby beardies for $25.00, to us the was a smokin deal..... So I responded and made arrangments to go pick up 4 of them for $100.00. When we got there we discoverd we already had horrible dealings with this person (i.e fronted as a rescue and sold a few animals we had donated). Not wanting to make a scene in front of his kids or ours, we played nice. When he showed us the babies there was only one left, as somehow the others dissapeared. She had scotch tape around her tail and had about 2 sheds stuck in it. Now, we do know that if people keep buying from the BSMT breeders, they will never go away, but we were fresh in to the hobby and I was almost crying looking at her. So we scooped her up and placed her in to he container to take her home. She was freaking out halfway home (20 minute drive) so hubby took her out of the container and held her, she went right to sleep in his hand. When we first got her we took her to a few reptile experts that we had met, they gave her about a month as she was extremly small and the kink in her tail had something to do with low calcium. Well we got the tape off, took almost 2 hours, nail clippers, tweezers and a lot of patience! Now hubby is terrified of catapilliars and I was always the one to feed the critters live food. Well not when it came to his Bones, he would lay on the couch with her on his chest. She would be curled up in his armpit and he would drop small mealworms on his chest and she would eat there, her liquid calcium was feed with a dropper every night. Its now been 6 months she is still extremly small (I will get pictures of her in his hand) but feisty as all heck. I cant pick her up only Daddy can, too cute to see something 3 inches long try to eat you. Attachments:

What a terrible story! I am so glad that you saved her. I feel the same way, no one should buy from these people, yet I would be the first one to take one of these guys home because I couldn`t leave her in those conditions When did you aquire her, she seems really pretty, is she a special morph of beardie?

Not sure of her morph, we picked her up when she was 3 months old and have had her for 6 months. Not the greateest shot... but you can see how small she is for being around 8-9 months and my hands are NOT that big lol Attachments:

Ya that is sad.... what was the purpose of the tape on the little guy... wow no sense I am really new to having bearded dragons, but I also have been guilty of requesting someone to have a Bearded Dragon that I later regretted doing. Thank fully I had some friends to help me out with the situation and they managed to get the little guy better and now he is doing fine.... I guess it is naieve to think that is doesn't go on...but I am running into the same situation again...sad but true ...it is very frustrating. I have a special respect for people who will spend the time to help the little guys who need it. KUDOS to all the herp rescuers!

Good rescue story. I work at the Confed Petland in the reptile/fish room and you wouldn't believe the people who come in. Reptiles that don't get supplemented or uv bulbs.

Huge props for saving that baby!! I am in a similar situation with a starved and malnourished Gargoyle gecko right now. This is my first Garg.. I am a crested gal but HAD to take this girl when I saw her condition. I couldn't let her suffer and I am all about spending what is needed to save an animal. It is amazing how little people seem to care about these amazing creatures! They breed to make a buck (should NEVER be the reason to breed) and neglect the animals. Education is key and NO ONE should be allowed to adopt without being overloaded with info on proper care! Glad to see that your baby is growing, even if just a little. I love Beardies, and saving her makes her that much more special.

Our first two dragons were not housed or fed correctly when we first got them. The pet store that was in Yorkton shut down and all who had pets that required lighting and bugs were left only with the option of ordering on internet or driving into Regina. Were only eating canned peas. We lost Stitch about a year ago at we figure about 10 years old, still have her mate Lilo she is he most docile gentle creature. We have ten dragons now one big translucent yellow male we were given as fellow's exgirlfriends dragon and new girlfriend wanted it gone, very laid back ecept when time for crickets or worms. We have taken in a pair of iguanas, Harley and Jose (turn out to be a Josie when the eggs came)when people ran out of room and couldn't afford to house them, think I have about 800 into their habitat and its nothing fancy. Lady sent a Black and White Argentinian Tegu home with our boy that was so crazed that would almost leap out of the tank that he was in when ever the guy walked by. He was feeding it a live rat evry two weeks and only that. Our boy took time with it and now he eats all sorts of veggies and we put himm out to wander the kitchen we just make sure toes are covered so he won't mistake them for lunch. he still is quirky with feeding and will go on hunger stikes but think it is bit more a seasonal thing.
