I am housing 1 female and 1 male juvenile cornsnake in the same tank and are always curled up together. How ever when they are held together the males movements are sometimes jerky and it feels like he is flexing his body muscles. Does anyone have any insight to what this means?

I'm not going to be much help to you, but I thought I'd say that my male cornsnake does the same thing. My other corns wrap and glide around my arm, but he for some reason trys to stay stiff. Healthy as can be though . . .

Does it have something to do with breeding season? Just a thought but my male is also this way.

I think it's generally excitement in snakes. They don't have a whole lot they can do anything with... I've seen males of most of my species doing it in the presence of females, I've seen males do it at other males before a fight if they've been mixed together at a bad time, and often everyone does it if I forget and touch something in the kingsnake cage before I touch them.

It is part of their foreplay. Group housing of snakes is NOT a good idea. Is the female of breeding size & age? If not better seperate them quick or you are going to end up with a clutch of eggs & possibly an underage under weight female that becomes eggbound which can prove to be fatal in some cases. One of the many downfalls of group housing. Positve benefits for the snakes of ggroup housing are zero. All it does is save the owner $ & space & is not generally recomended practice when keeping snakes. Mark P.S. he WILL breed her if she is ready or not

I am not sure of their sexes as I am still an amateur in keeping cornsnakes. I have heard that they are male and female but until I find someone that is willing to sex them for me I will not be able to tell.

Try to get ahold of Mary V. She lives in Regina and I'm sure she'd be more than willing to sex them for you if you talked to her about it. She sexed my girlfriends snake when we bought from her and although it wasn't 100% successful, she seemed to have a good idea of the sex. Just a thought

Is he "piggy backing" whilist his twitchy movements.. AKA riding the back up to the females head?
Yes, I totally agree with Mark, co habbing is not what is considered the best way to keep corns..
