What is the easiest way to reduce the smell from breeding mice and rats? I hear that adding vanilla extract to the water drastically reduces the smell. Any info anyone?

i find the vanilla works pretty good, altho i never notice much smell for the rats, it did take some of the bite out of the mice.(smell wise)

When we bred mice we kept a single male per tub with a group of females and made a point to cull the male babies first - they went as feeders when they were fuzzies, then we just had females to grow up in the tubs when they were hoppers and young adults. Females definitely smell less. Also leave a bit of the used litter in the breeder tub when you clean it - then the male won't have to spend so much time having to re-mark his territory - it you make it perfectly clean every time the males really work at marking it more - makes the smell worse.
Good luck with them - it is tough to live with the smell of raising rodents.

Stall dry works way better than cat litter, also use a cat spray that take the urine smell off the tank or plastic! Ours barley ever smell!
