I got some updated snapshots of one of my Florida snappers. They are getting big fast and my love for them increase everyday.Chelydra Serpentina Osceola are said to be the biggest of the species , and I think they are more colrful as well compared to our common snappers we have here.I know this turtle ..,"Gollum" even has a pinkish hue to him where my other doesn't , but, they both have beautiful grayish colorations that seem to be more defining as they mature.Florida snappers also have a more pointy snout than others which differentiates them from the regular. Can't wait till I get a digital cam ...... Oh ....Henry Piorun snagged these up for me.

Very nice Shawn. How do you know it's a FLA snapper as opposed to a different locale/subspecies?

Good question Ian , there is not awhole lot of difference between the florida and our common snapper for the most part . For one I know florida snappers tend to get bigger than our commons . Also the colours on a florida snapper , more noticeable on youngsters , is much lighter where as a common snapper form here is almost black or a very dark brown or grey . Even as they mature a florida snapper on average will be lighter in color. The one I have pictured here is actually more dark than my other one . The other one is much better example of how light they usually are . Probably the biggest difference is the neck tubercles..., florida snappers have pointed ones where as others are more rounded .

I don't see the tubercle difference in the pic's but do appreciate how yours are much lighter. I wonder if the FLA snappers reach a larger size genetically, or due to enviromental factors.
