Took a few pics tonight of my racks for the rats and mice, I just inherited a friends colonies and setups so I've pretty much doubled my output. Here are my original racks, rats first then mouse....... I've been able to get enough rats out of these to easily keep my older snakes going but the mice haven't taken off for me just yet so hopefully the new additions will give me pinkies and fuzzies for the hatchlings. The next pics are the setups I just got, I personally wouldn't have used the rubbermaids for the mice but he never had any chewing problems so I guess I'll use them untill there is a problem. So now I'll be producing more than I need which can't be a bad thing, hopefully the mice start going for me too.

Quite the crew!! Nice set ups - looks quite efficient. Mice certainly are much more of a challenge to breed than rats - such aggressive little guys unless you get a strain that is calm and will settle down and produce for you. It took a lot of selection when I was working with them to get really productive colonies. The rats just seem to get down to business right away and produce.
thanks for sharing,

I just started breeding mice this winter. They've all been rather calm and have bred nicely. They're just in 30-40 gallon aquariums. Funny thing, only yesterday did a few begin trying to jump out (it's quite the jump) and in the shorter of the tanks it's actually possible. Time for some lids I guess Or a set up like yours eh, nice job! Ian

I've been doing my best with the litters I do get to match up groups very young and grow them up together as this really makes a difference in how well they produce. The big problem once getting litters is them being eaten soon after being born. This is something that I let slide with the first litter but if it happens twice with the same female or females I just whack them.
Since I aquired the new group I've done some matching and I seem to have a bunch of females that are pregnant now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't try to make a snack out of their babies.
Glad you guys liked the setup and yes it is very efficient.

I like the set up, it's easy for me. Except the the one rat rack is too tall and I'm too short. but i love all my rats and mice.

I just learned last night that the last mouse rack in this pic is one that Byron & I orginally built years ago... ;D...I thought it looked awfully familliar when you first posted these, but I thought no way - they're out in a rodentry in Delisle!! Turns out they were sold...This is such a small world! Glad they're holding up!! I KNEW I recognized that darn thing!! ;D
