???Hey guys, I was in Petland the other day and I noticed they had one or two chameleons, I think one,and the tag said 1 of 200 wild caught specimens.I believe it was a panther , but I'm not totally sure.It was a beautiful specimen and I didn't look it over really well , but I just thought it didn't seem right. Is it neseccary to catch wild ones??I was under the impression that they are captive bred to a fairly high degree, making it unessecary to go out and catch wild ones.It just seemed odd cuz they were advertising it and I always thought they were big in "Captive bred" reptiles.Does anyone know who might of been involved in the catching of these wild chameleons and for what reason.Does this mean they are getting hard to find in the captive trade and that they need people to breed them??I hate to see this , if thats the case , cuz it just leads to something else where their wild numbers will decrease and eventually create a problem. Anyways , just wanderin if anyone has any ideas or info on this topic??

I was just in Regina last week and went to the Petsmart and Petland and both places looked to have some wild caught reptiles in.....Petland is especially bad for bringing them in and they never bother hiding it. If I remember correctly they were asking around $600-700 ea. for the Panthers at Petland, both were adults and very nice looking.
I know for a fact that Petland has had numerous wildcaught reptiles come in and end up dead after short stays.

When I was a manager at Petland, I usually never ordered anything in wildcaught. The only things I ever brought in wild caught were like giant millipedes, or really obscure scorpions. I know when we first opened we had a Wild Caught Blue Tail monitor that came from Winnipegs store. For the most part, at least when I worked there, wildcaught animals were easily avoidable, unless someone wanted something more rare special ordered. But those Chameleons were kinda weird to see, as when I worked there, we had a guy in the city who captive bred them and they were a lot better than the ones they had. Strange . . .
But then again, Probably a quarter of the fish in the store are probably wild caught too. Depending on the species.

That blue tail monitor was awesome! I was at petland in Regina about a month ago and I was very dissapointed in the prices, and how small the section was.
