I stumbled upon this site from a bit victim. Very graphic and shows just how bad a bite can be. This is why I would never want to work with hots without the proper training from an experienced individual www.rattlesnakebite.org/index.htmGreg West

I've seen that site before....nasty stuff. I'm in the same boat as you Greg, I'm not sure I'd ever keep hots period but if I did it would be after some serious training. I'll stick to taking pictures of them out in the wild, still have to watch every step though.

Yeah , quite the story!! In regards to keeping hot snakes, I'm unsure . I would love the experience in handling them and such , but as for keeping them , it's something not relevant for me right now.In a way I'm getting lots of experience in handling such from my big Taiwan. It's good practice and if if it does go wrong it won't kill me.I think he's training me for the real deal one day, and if anyone wants practice , come on down and have a crack at him.I guarantee he will deliver on acting like a a true mamba.I compare him to dealing with a mamba for the fact that he is a slender ,very agile snake that lunges out and comes back over his own body for a chance to nip ya.Now I've never dealt with a mamba ,but from what I've seen on T.v. he has the characteristics of one and definately does not act like a rattler or any other thick ,short bodied snake.I've debated many times on giving him up ,but he has been passed along many times already , due to his attitude and lack of handibility.Definately a challenge and I've never had such a snake as him, totally relentless and out for blood.

You are correct Ryan, I got him in December of 2004.Steve grew tired of his attitude and the fact that hes not easily handible and tossed him my way , in rights of a trade.I believe the snake at one point came from a clutch of yours if not mistaken. My hopes are that he'd calm down eventually , but he only seems to get worse, and I've been workin with him for over 2 years now so........Oh well. It's just that hes a nice big snake and he would be a good show piece if he was easier to deal with.

Oh, that snake!
He was born wild. Sheila and I were gone, but mom was taking care of the animals. The eggs started to hatch, and poor mom had to set them up in containers.
Taiwans babies are especailly crazy flighty and very fast anyways - but many from this clutch were nuts. One more than the others.
It got away from Mom, and Sheila's sister who was here to help mom put some in containers. Mom felt bad, but I think she found it in newspapers she put on the floor. Mom asked me if I labled that container to keep track of the snake.
I'm not sure if we took it to red deer and came home with it or what exactly happened. But it got out of a container I was sure was secured in the reptile room (so I think after we took it somewhere, I knew I had put it away) and we went to a reptile show somewhere (Yorkton maybe, Shawn, do you remember) and as I was to close the truck door after getting out, I saw 1/2 of it sticking out the door latch inside the truck door.
Took me a while to know what I was seeing, but he was crawling out the door, and I knew it was not any snake we had taken there - when I realized it was a taiwan baby it took me a while to figure out how it could have gotten there, as I was in shock. It must have gotten out of its container in the one reptile room, and hiched a ride in a larger bag for a boa, that we loaded the next day - gotten out during the trip, and got into the door or something. Weird and freaky I know, but i had just set it up in that room, and i'ts open container was found.
So, then Mom knew she had to have it.
I think it was born evil, the door thing didn't do it. I wondered it it was pain from broken ribs or something, from the door latch.
Mom called me over a few times to see if I could pick it up without getting bit, and I usually could, but not many times I didn't get bit while holding it or putting it back.
Steve pleaded to have that snake at that years fall count, and he wanted it cause it was mean - I see he changed his mind shortly there after.
Thanks for giving that evil son of a bitch a good home - It looked like it would be pretty - but it was born posessed or something.

Ha!! I see the little bastard has quite the history! ;D He is a good lookin snake and a monster. He's got an injury which appears to be be a few broken ribs , cuz he has an indented side to him about a quarter down or so , I imagine from the door or something.I was able to free hand the guy once when Steve delivered him and thats because he was cold from the trip.Since then he is impossible to handle unless you want to get mangled. He strikes relentlessly and at anything that gets close. It's quite the event when he needs attention in cleaning and such.I'm tempted to wear gloves when I have to deal with him , hell maybe even body armour, but the fact that he's not venomous makes me bare down and not cop out.I crack his lid open and hope for the best.He either comes flying out or sits ready to strike, so I wait for my chance to grab his tail and then with a modified stick I control him to an extent and eventually after dancing with him for at least 5-10 mins I finally get his head pinned and then try to keep him from coiling up and forcing me to let his head go.This one time he got coiled up around my hand , which I was holding his head with and he was squeezing so tight around it that he was actually sufffocating himself, so I had to let his head go and then start all over.I now make sure this doesn't happen.Hes so crazy he would kill himself for sure. Besides the little injury to its side he is magnificent and in great shape, but possessed he is..Ha !I have those three other Taiwans that I got from you I think last year or 2 years ago (I think) and they are quite flighty too , but thats there nature, but they never bite and calm down fairly well after awhile. They are great lookin guys as well and never had issues with them. They are definately the fastest snakes I've dealt with and dam near fly!!! ;D By the way Ryan, or anyone else , I'm wandering where I can get a jigger? Not a snake hook , but the kind of thing that you can pin the snakes head down with easier. You know the kind of thing like Rob Bredl uses on his show Killer Instinct.Any info on such thing??My homemade stick isn't the best tool for the job...

That is just too cute. When I decided I couldn't handle the little fellow, I figured I was a failure! It seemed that Katt could calm him down, Ryan managed to deal with him, but he really had it in for me! ;D When we 'lost him' right out of the egg I made a bunch of little hides for him etc. Imagine my surprise to find him! I thought he would have nestled under some of the larger cages in the room with heat pads. Then when he survived the truck episode, I thought it was meant to be that I should own him. I did my best but he was just sid vicious!!! I couldn't believe my luck to find somebody that wanted a mean snake. In fact there were 2 people here that weekend that wanted him but Steve was first.......so he was the lucky one! Hopefully he will settle down for you. I love Taiwan's. Carol

Ha! I have had him for over 2 years now and he shows no signs of settling down at all, and the bigger he gets the more attitude it seems he gathers as well.Definately a beautiful guy , even in his evil ways and I will keep him always , till the end.

Hello all long time no see. Just to be clear. I miss that evil bastard will all my heart. He actually struck the glass so hard once he dislocated his jaw. was like that for 3 days. The truth behind it all is blame the girl friend, she wanted that posessed thing out of the house so it went to shawn as he said he like the challenge of rank snakes. I warned him. shawn i will have to come for a visit sometime and try not to get tagged. only ever managed to hold him twice with no blood. The real bitch of it all is the pair i recieved in trade, by some act of god dissapeared. One day they just simply not there, man was i pissed. well anyway just wanted to be clear that i did not take him in and then change my mind. it got changed for me. anytime you want to send him home i'll buy em back. i need to fill an enclosure anyway. btw ryan, the tegu i got from sheila is doin great. real nasty thing though. what is that with u guys givin me nasty critters. ex: taiwan, tegu, black rat. just pokin fun, they all are great!
