So I was bored today and reading about snakes when I came across a line about furnishings that said:
"Kings and milks are rather secretive snakes, preferring to curl up in a rocky crevice or under a log."
I am just curious if anyone thinks this true of their king or milk? My baby is almost the exact opposite. He likes to bask right at the front of his tank for all to see. Also this morning I was getting ready (his tank is in our bedroom) and saw that he was tucked away behind his plants. I carried on then sat down to visit with my bf, when I looked up I saw his little head peeking out and yawning. The tank is only a foot or so away from the bed. I continued to visit and looked over again to see him right by the glass looking, greeting me and seeing me off for the day. Of course he is quite the inquisitor. Every time I hold him he is looking around and trying to search things out.
Anyway my cat is trying to type for me so I must depart. Just a slight observation.

I find my honduran milks are very secretive especially as youngsters, more confident as they age. I have always found the kingsnake species we have kept to be very outgoing and curious snakes - the cal kings were always cruising their enclosures and our last remaining durango mountain king is usually active and basking - hardly ever hides. Some kingsnake species are quite secretive though - I think there is just so much diversity among the differnt king species - what kind do you have?

Well, I don't have any milk snakes, but I found my GBK's like to be under the paper substrate a bit. But I don't think they are hiding, since they also spend a bit of time curled around their water bowls and otherwise slithering about.

I find that my milk likes to hide in his log for the majority of the day but as soon as we turn out the lights to watch tv he usually comes and out and explores his terrarium and of course checks out my cat who likes to sit and watch him. He has however taken to burrowing under his substrate lately and every once in a while sleeps either under his water dish or ontop of his log when he feels like basking.
