The one clutch I was really hoping for this year was laid last night. I am testing out a probable ultramel het caramel male by breeding him to a butter female. At the very least this will give butters, but if he turns out to be ultramel as we suspect then there will be golddusts (ultramel homozygous caramel) in the clutch as well. He is only 2 years old and I never confirmed the pair breeding - but evidently the young guy was working when the lights were out - the male ultramel het caramel - from Ruth Hanney the proud mom and 25 eggs - couple are a bit soft yet, but may turn out good I think this could be the first breeding that will produce golddusts in Canada so will be exciting to get some - hope there are other breeders trying out this combination here - they are very pretty corns. mary v.
