I caught my first snake this year yesterday (April 8). It was a nice bullsnake, about 4 feet long basking just outside of one of the dens in Drumheller. We found it at about 6:30 pm, it was overcast and fairly cool, around 12 degrees C. Here's to a great herping season for all...

Excellent!
I haven't even had a chance to look for any snakes yet...but I did hear frogs in the distance yesterday when I was in Moose Jaw...

Wow Shawn, April 8 is pretty early. Do you have any pictures? This afternoon I was out near the dens, I had my camera with me so I figured I'd take a bit of a drive and see if anything was around. I was a bit under the weather today, so I'm not sure if my camera is out of focus, or if it is just me. Some of my pictures are terribly out of focus, but I got a few of the 1 bullsnake I saw. I don't even think he knew I was there, as I was leaving he was still sitting in the same spot. As I was getting ready to come home, Ryan Rhiannan and Vanan showed up. The sun broke, I really wanted to stay and go herping with them. They found more than I did but I think Ryan will post pictures later so I will let him tell you their story. I also snapped some pictures of some of the prarie, before anything started growing. I'm going to take more pictures like this at various times of the year so that I have a compilation of pictures of all of the beautiful color changes that this area goes through. They should all get better from here.... things are pretty bland and lifeless right now.

Yep, we got a few pics, but I have to figure out how to post them (I did read the forum on how to). I am no computer expert and my friend Trevor (who is) went back to Saskatoon yesterday. I'll figure it out soon though and then post some pics - I took some at work the other day with the intention of putting them up on this site. The bullsnake I caught yesterday took a few minutes to realize that something was going on after I picked him up b/c he was so cool, but even then he was pretty quiet. On another note, when are you coming out here for a visit, Ryan?

Couldn't you imagine an Old Time Western being filmed there?

Woops I guess I should have looked over the forums more before I posted in the field herping section, that thread has a very similar title. Oh well, more pics over there of todays finds.
All but one of the Bulls we found today were actually very warm and pretty damn feisty, the first one I almost stepped on as he was way out in open ground and I wasn't expecting to see one that far from the den. When I grabbed him he was hissing and musking me like crazy and like I said he was very warm.

Huh ... just jokes , I'll manage .......Awesome piks guys , makes me want to join ya!!! And you 2 live at different places atleast. On another forum we are both on, we joined within days of each other. Ryan joined first, as Ryan. Ryan wasn't an option to me. So, I joined as Ryan W. I saw a new members post from a Ryan from Leader and thought I was in an episode of the twilight zone (or had just joined, and couldn't remember doing it, possibly due to beer) To avoid confusion they just decided to call me Sir as a nickname. That worked for me... Ryan
