Hey ya'll!! I was just trying to see and get some insight as to if anyone else has had or does anyone know why that there is bleeding sometimes after copulation? In the 5 years I've been breeding colubrids I have had the odd time where there is some blood present after mating along with the sperm spill.Has anyone else had this?I suspect its from the female , but not certain.Anyways its been on occasion and doesn't seem to affect breeding or production in anyway that I've noticed.I've never heard anyone comment on this before so I was just curious.I'm guessing it's cause is maybe VIGOROUS , WILD , SEX!!! HA HA ;D

Interesting! Was it from first time breedings? I wonder if snakes have anything like the hymen.? Alex - any idea?

Was it a hybrid attempt?
Each species of snake has slightly different shapes of hemipenes (kings and corns aren't that different, but pythons and vipers are hugely different). The females canal is also shaped different.
Some people think this was natures way of avoiding hybrids (fit tab a into slot a, tab b won't fit in slot a).
But if it was a hybrid attempt, maybe the bleeding was caused because of the tab b and slot a differences. Just a guess.

I've seen it lots. I keep mine on blue shop towel so you notice all the yummy spots easily. I've never had a problem after with either sex snake but assume it is from "rough sex" so to speak & could be from the female or more likely the male getting drug around by a hemipene. I know of cases where males sometimes get a prolapsed hemipene also. Anyhow I've seen it quite a few times & it is always mixed in with the "sperm spill" as mentioned above. I had one earlier this week actually from some corns. Extra grossness to clean anyhow & freaks you out a bit worrying about it. Mark

I don't do enough breeding to have seen it myself, but I've seen it discussed on vet forums before and while I can't recall exactly what's the cause (I think it's a variation of that rough sex), it was never a problem.

Mark - Yeah , I figured it was common and just rough sex, thanks for varifying , it's always cooler when someone else has had the same issue.
Thanks ya'll!!
