HI Joe!
It is set for Oct 6th and 7th 2012. We are actually just about to have our first meeting with the executives from the Saskatoon Aquarium Society. We are looking for a new bigger venue this next show. If anyone has any ideas let me know!

We looking for a venue for the Thanksgiving Show 2012. The ideal venue would be available from 6:00 pm Thursday 4 October 2012 to 10:00 pm 7 October 2012. The venue should have easy access to a water supply, public washrooms, and a separate area for speaker presentations. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Is that when the ERAS show is? I should probably know but that info isn't in front of me at the moment. I might suggest making sure that it's not the same weekend to give vendors and attendees the chance to hit both.

We lucked out!
ERAS 2012 Fall Show & Sale - September 29th & 30th
I guess it is a good thing the shows aren`t the same weekend - but it isn`t that great that it is the following weekend. The reason we place it on this weekend is the fact that it falls on a long weekend. This gives people the time to travel from all over Sask and Alberta - plenty of the fish people who participate are from Alberta. Plus, a lot of people travel into Sask for Thanksgiving and it gives them something to do with their families. This is how the fish guys have been doing it for years and it works pretty good. The show was really busy last year.

That is perfect. ERAS avoids long weekends, so if that's the way you go, we'll always fit around each other. When the time gets closer I probably be able to commit as a vendor with Herp Nation magazine.

I am looking forward to this show. I hope the vendor turnout for herps is decent. I may even be able to swing selling some arachnids for a dealer I use regularly. And there will be fish!!!! In fact its perfect.

No Venue yet - it will be in Saskatoon for the simple fact it is in conjunction with the Saskatoon Aquarium Society. We will see how it goes this year and if it goes better than last with reptile vendors we will try to team up with the Regina aquarium society so we can do it yearly instead of every second year.

Have you considered having it in a hotel. Maybe the hotel would give a discount on rooms and the out of town venders could stay right there. Just an idea. I don't know stoon very well so that's all I have.

I know the Regina Aquarium Society had our show last year in the Regina Inn! Hotels are great venues for many reasons the issue is that some hotels have issues with all the fish tanks, and snakes and other creatures for shows.

Sorry - no there isn`t. The fish guys were going to look at a couple places - but I haven`t heard back.
On a side note I would like a count for tables so I will send out a mass email to all members

Show Update:
The SAS is looking into having the show at the Confederation Mall The good thing about this will be that the tables will be free to venders.
How do you guys feel about this?
Another option that Elisa Brought up is that we could have a spot in a hotel here in the city and that it would be $400-$500 per day. I brought it up to the aquarium guys - but they weren`t interested when we have the option of a free venue.
If we wanted we could do a separate show from the SAS and not have the aquarium society involved. We could also change the dates/have it as a one day show.
This would allow for more movement in what we want for a venue and timeline because right now we have to wait to hear what they are doing and follow the dates they choose.
I only have a few interested parties in tables right now - so please speak with your friends who have reptiles and see if they would like to have a display table or a breeders table.
While everything is still up in the air it is really hard to do any sort of advertising for venders on the other forums but I will put up some posts on kijiji to see if I can attract some more.
Let me know what you guys think and I will move forward next week.

Would there be easy access at the mall? The mall would have a lot of foot traffic which I think would be really good.
I like the Hotel idea because it would be convenient for out of towners and to me it just has more of a reptile show feel to it, if that makes sense.

I am fine with either option. Both side have advantages but i do like the idea of it in a mall, the natural foot traffic would be a decent boost i think.

Just received Confirmation from the SAS that they have cancelled having a show this year since we are unable to find a proper venue.
"Despite prolonged efforts we have not been able to find a venue within our budget for the Thanksgivings Show this year. We have therefore cancelled the Show for this year. Hopefully we can find someplace to set up the show for next year."
I had a feeling it would come to this.
HISS is unable to have a show without the SAS because we do not have insurance (the club isn`t a registered non-profit any longer because of lack of interest)
If anyone is wanting to go a head with putting together a reptile show for this fall go ahead with it. Elise had mentioned doing a show and said she had all these great contacts so maybe she will move forward?
