do to lack of finding reasonable frozen feeders($2 per mouse hopper is insane let alone rat prices), we have started breeding our own.
now my problem/question is, where can i get good quality breeding stock? i have a few from stores/breeders(feeder) but am looking to get really nice breeding stock, lab or fancy, just good sizes/litters/health etc.
shipping is an option depending on cost.
looking to find/purchase 1-2 colonies of both mouse and rat 1:8 and possibly 1:4 mice, fancy or lab 8-12 weeks(slightly older or younger is fine)
1:4+ rats fancy or lab, dumbo's if possible.
adults are/will be spoiled pets, with large cages(pet recommended sizes not bins/racks)
will be fed a lab diet with occasional seed mixture as treats, with table scraps(veggies, meat, pasta, bread etc) 2-4 times a week
any help finding some is greatly appreciated. prefer standard/silk coats on the mice and rats
would like to avoid longhair/rex etc

I'm not too sure what to suggest, as the feeder breeders may be reluctant to sell to you knowing that it will essentially cost them business - or they'll charge you an arm and a leg. Most of the people breeding really nice pets seriously object to using rodents as feeders. I would suggest just trying to pick carefully from pet stores - when we were in the feeder business we sold to pet stores out of the same large grown out tanks that held the feeders, which were the very same ones we pulled replacement breeders from... You could try Heather Gessell too - 493-2729, I think...She's our former business partner, has some really nice rats, and may be willing to set you up...Not sure if they still have mice... Good luck!
