That's because we are all busy doing water changes bryan. I only have 6 turtles 3 red eared sliders, my rescues. I also have 3 map turtles, my babies. I do live in Toon town and will be getting more turtles in the spring. Some mud turtles I'm thinking. later peeps.

I have 5x RES (Doris, Sheldon, Emilia, norm, pettie) 1x Western painted (samantha) 1x ouachita map (mable) 1x false map (Simon)
Basically all from people who could not take care of them anymore so rescues, except for sheldon my wife got him when she was 4.
6 of our turtles live together in a 400-500gal (guessing here) basement pond, the 2 that dont have proven they cant be with the other turtles and have been seperated. We dont tollerate bitting.
Dont know if we will add any more but i have said no in the past and somehow we just keep getting more. I guess alot of people dont realize its a pet that might outlive you.
good to know there are other turtle keepers here.

Turtles/torts demand more indepth caging/enclosure requirements and time , especially with aquatics(filters, ponds, heating) so expense goes up along with much else making them much more of an investment with money and like I said earlier.... TIME. But we are out here...

I'm not in the area, but keep a number of chelonians. 1.2 russian tortoises 1.0 sulcata 1.0 three toed box turtle 1.1 red eared slider 1.0 red bellied cooter (P.nelsoni) I have also cared for snapping turtles, alligator snappers, and soft shells, but they are illegal in Alberta. I'd keep them if I moved to Sask

We have been looking for a tortoises off and on but they are extreamly expensive in canada and even more expensive in saskatchewan (if you can even find one).
How do you like careing for the russians as aposed to the sulcata quite a size difference am i right?

Definately go with the russians. Both are extremely fun pets, but sulcatas are massive bulldozers that will destroy your enclosure, and then your house. I have this opinion and my guy is only 30lbs so far. The ERAS shows usually have tortoises for under $300. If not russians, other, similiarly sized species. We did have a guy pushing his sulcata's out cheaply, but he wasn't overly honest as to how large they got. It's something that has been addressed by the club.

Yes , as Ian said sulcata = bulldozer . Sulcatas are the third largest tortoise in the world , they grow faster than most torts , require room size enclosures as adults and preferably sooner . Lets keep it in my mind that Saskatchewan is very good with allowing turts and torts , better than most other provinces , so I beg anyone looking to purchase any chelonian to PLEASE , make sure you know what you are getting into and BE RESPONSIBLE so we can keep this part of the law unchanged . We may not be able to have boids but we have a fair and decent chelonian law.

You may be jelouse of my maps, but i am jelouse of your tortoises (not that i really have room for them). To bad the maps are illegal there, they are not the most outgoing but they sure are cute. Just thought i would add this, was recomended on a turtle forum www.petsandponds.com/Made an order for some reptomin(good price for 2.6lb) as well as a canister filter (great price again). so thought i would pass it on as i have had issues finding places to get the larger volumes of turtle food at a good price.

Thanks, I added that link to my favorites. Do you buy from them often?
Reptomin is the best quality commercial turtle food that I've found, but I feed trout chow that I get at the UFA. I've looked at the ingredients and it looks pretty good. I"ve also seen other keepers that have kept healthy turtles for decades on the stuff.

Only once before since i just recent found that place, i cant match there prices anywhere localy and they did a very nice job with my order.
With 8 turtles food adds up so finding a place that sells reptomin at half the price i currently pay for it (considering by the pound) is great.
Turtles and fish seem to ahve very similar needs so trout chow should work.. i do ocasoonaly offer other pelets (zoomeds) and vegetibales as well as supperworms since i have those on hand for my breaded dragon anyways.
They love the worms. by far everyones favorite treat.
